Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors in each game of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
