Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 in which he enjoyed participating in various card games when he was young. He discovered himself getting very aggressive in the above-mentioned card games as he was playing his father. After finishing secondary school, Howard decided to place college on hold for a bit and moved to New York to compete in some big-time chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were rough as he played extensive hours and fail to win most times. He earned some additional cash by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he could improve his game by adjusting his life away from poker. He brought about an attempt to get more rest and concentrate even more on the game.

The definite improvement in his skills began when he started gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best gamblers would frequently play against each other. Howard was able to access a few of the best players in chess. With their assistance, he would tweak his strategic thinking techniques. He applied these strategic ideas to the game of NL hold’em.

Howard also assisted his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. She was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper decision. Howard told Annie to head out to Sin City and play in the WSOP competition. She is one of the best women players the poker arena ever. Howard headed to Las Vegas in 1993 and participated in money games for the subsequent decade. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard decided to participate in more tournaments.
