Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative feedback from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
