Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn anything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative comments from other people destroy his dream of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil began playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
