Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve closing table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest bettors in the world. While competing in web poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He frequently participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then goes all-in. I believe Gus is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the min buy in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I think tv can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players in the world may be players you have never heard about. Gus can be seen gambling on web poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in cash rounds?
