Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse feedback from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
Phil started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
