Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the globe by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse comments from other people kill his ambition of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
