Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental comments from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
He began competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to get better.
Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
