Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the globe by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover whatever he could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative feedback from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
