Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the last table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest enthusiasts in the world. While competing in net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amount. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best players anywhere in the world could be players you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be found participating in net poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in big stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in money rounds?
