Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the closing table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best players in the world. While participating in internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen frequently buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I believe television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best players anywhere in the world may be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be found participating in online poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in big stakes Omaha and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in cash rounds?
