Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He started competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
