Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five in which he enjoyed playing numerous card games when he was young. He found himself becoming very aggressive in the above-mentioned card games while playing his father. After graduating from high school, Howard decided to put college on hold for a little while and moved away to New York to participate in some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s first two years were tough as he would play many hours and do not win most times. He earned some extra money by being an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he might improve his game by balancing his life away from poker. He made an effort to get more sleep and focus attention even more on poker.
The definite improvement in his skills happened when he started wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best gamblers would frequently compete against one another. He was able to access several of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, he would hone his logical thinking techniques. Howard used these strategic concepts in the game of NL texas hold’em.
He also assisted his sibling Annie Duke master poker. Annie Duke was a great student of the game as she would always be asking questions about the right way to make the correct decision. He told Annie to move out to Vegas and play in the WSOP competition. Annie Duke is one of the greatest women players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard relocated to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in cash games for the successive decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard decided to compete in more tournaments.
