Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
