Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse comments from other people destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
