Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the closing poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. He won a big pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest players around the world. While wagering on online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He regularly competes in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has no reason to play at the table with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total dollar value. I think television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world might be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be found wagering on net poker on Full Tilt.
