Stu is thought to be by many to the finest No Limit Hold’em Poker gambler ever.

The three time World Poker Champion was born in New York in ‘53 and began wagering poker prior to reaching his teens.

The young gambler began wagering gin and at the age of 10 had won his primary gin rummy tournament, while on holiday with his parents. By the time he turned fourteen the little poker genius had turned pro and dropped out of school.

In ‘54 Stu Ungar entered the history books by succeeding $10,000 in a gin tournament without sacrificing a single hand, a record which still remains in New York these days.

The fast speaking superstar has been likened, in poker terms, to athletic superstars such as Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods. Stu had a genuine ability for wagering poker except despite his successes in Texas hold em poker, he preferred betting gin.

Stu once said that there may several day be a far better NL Hold em gambler than him except he couldn’t see how anyone could ever be a much better gin gambler.

In ‘80 Stu was put on the world map as one of the greatest Texas hold’em Poker gamblers in the world when he was crowned World Poker Champion for the first time. Amazingly it was the very first time he had entered the tournament.

The following year he put aside any thoughts that it had been luck, by effectively defending his title. And in ‘97 Stu set the record by succeeding his 3rd World poker championship.

But this poker legend also struggled with substance abuse and a year following winning his 3rd title Stu Ungar died in his hotel room. According to medical doctors, he had died from a heart attack which was brought on by his lifestyle.

Stu Ungar had started out with absolutely nothing except his ability and natural talent for the casino game which made this poker excellent a millionaire numerous times over.
